“Jon Jones of 2011, from prospect to one of the greatest Light Heavyweights ever.”

Hey everyone, Andre Harrison back at it once again with another review, and this time, it’ll be of UFC 140: Jones vs Machida from last night in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. On the card, the Korean Zombie took on Mark Hominick, the Nog brothers returned against Frank Mir and Tito Ortiz, Brian Ebersole faced Claude Patrick and Jon Jones faced Lyoto Machida for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. It’s UFC 140: Jones vs Machida, here on the Harrison Analysis!

On commentary, as always, Mike Goldberg, and Joe Rogan.

Chan Sung Jung (11-3) vs Mark Hominick (20-9) (Featherweight Division)

Round 1: Hominick swings, Jung dodges and KABOOM! Hominick is out, it’s over! MAMMA MIA!?!

Winner: Chan Sung Jung via Knockout (SEVEN Seconds of Round 1)

Harrison’s Analysis: Erm…What the F@#? just happened? 7 seconds! The joint fastest KO in UFC History with Todd Duffee (Althought Duane Ludwig we all know has done one in 4), but there’s not much I can really say, it was a lucky punch and a genuine shocker. Awesome! ★★★

Brian Ebersole (48-14-1) vs Claude Patrick (14-1) (Welterweight Division)

Round 1: Ebersole with a body kick and shoots, Patrick with a guillotine from the bottom, but Ebersole escapes, and both men stand and clinch. Ebersole gets Patrick against the cage, but Patrick reverses and throws a knee to the body. Ebersole reverses, drops for a double leg and gets it. Claude with a guillotine, but Ebersole escapes. Patrick stands, Ebersole with a jab. Ebersole lands a left in the pocket. Body shot from Patrick, and another shoot. Patrick defends on the wall, Patrick reverses position at the buzzer. (10-9 Ebersole, had the control on the ground, and the majority of position in the clinch)

Round 2: Left hand connects from Patrick to start Round 2. Good knee afterwards. Ebersole gets Patrick to the fence, and a good elbow from Ebersole and lands an elbow. Shoot from Ebersole, but Patrick defends.Patrick knees and elbows against the fence. Ebersole keeping Patrick up here. Patrick with a front kick, but misses the knee. Patrick now with Ebersole on the fence now. Knee to the body by Ebersole. Ebersole with a waistlock and reverses, throwing to the body. Good combo lands for Patrick, who then shoots, but Ebersole stuffs the shoot. Ebersole pushes Patrick against the cage to end the round. (Closer than the last, giving this one to Patrick 10-9, landed better and the clinching was about even here.)

Round 3: Ebersole shoots but Patrick sprawls, Ebersole counters and ends up on top. Patrick gets warned for shots to the back of the head. Patrick up, but Ebersole keeps a waistlock and gets the slam, moving into side control. Patrick gives up his back, but turtles. Patrick stands, but Ebersole keeps control. Ebersole gets Patrick down again and lands some shot. Patrick up yet again, he just can’t get free from Ebersole here. Tries a spin, and Ebersole presses him to the cage again. Ebersole looking for the single leg. Patrick tries a D’Arce! Ebersole escapes, and standing again. Patrick tries and lands three consecutive uppercuts. Patrick landing body shots and a knee combo, Ebersole jabs back. Ebersole shoots and Patrick stuffs it and tries to roll out at the horn. (10-9 Ebersole. Had the control in this one, Patrick couldn’t get out, but Patrick was more aggressive in that Round. Tough fight to call.)

Winner: Brian Ebersole via Split Decision (29-28 x2 Ebersole, 29-28 Patrick)

Harrison’s Analysis: Probably the least impressive Mr Ebersole has looked in the UFC so far, but that now makes three in a row, against a game Claude Patrick, who on another day could have won. Normally Toronto fans are very generous towards boring fights due to their knowledge of the sport but even they couldn’t sit through this one quietly without letting their feelings known. But I give it the benefit of the doubt for having a nice back or forth nature. ★★

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (19-5) vs Tito Ortiz (16-9-1) (Light Heavyweight Division)

Round 1: Tito hits an early body kick and a solid right to start! Nogueira comes back, but Tito hits an uppercut back. Tito shoots, but Nogueira sprawls. Tito presses Nogueira against the fence, trying to get a hook in. Good left from Nogueira and Tito is rocked! Lil Nog with a knee as well! Tito covers up, and Nogueira firing away against the fence. Tito gets away, but a knee to the body drops Ortiz! Tito looking to come back with his legs from the guard. Nogueira now going from body to the head, with elbows! Tito in the foetal position and Nogueira with hammerfists and now some shots to the body! Elbows to the body by Nogueira as Tito covers up, and it is all over! Wow!

Winner: Antonio Rogerio Nogueira via TKO (Knee of Death 2, 3:15 of Round 1)

Harrison’s Analysis: The People’s Champ has been kneed to oblivion again. Gotta give the man some credit, he’s always been competitive against top level guys until now, this was a whopping and a superb performance from Lil Nog. He’s really racking some momentum together and with a little more work, he could get up there and challenge the top level of opposition in the rather loaded 205 Division. Maybe something with Shogun or Griffin could be next, whenever Griffin stops making rape jokes. Great peformance from Lil Nog! ★★★★

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (33-6-1) vs Frank Mir (15-5) (Heavyweight Division)

Round 1: Big Nog wanting payback. Jabs graze Mir, and a takedown attempt early from Nog, Mir blocks, but Nog gets Mir against the fence. Mir explodes and reverses. Shot to the body by Mir, and they go back and forth in a position battle. Minotauro with a body shot, and Frank takes Nog down and Mir into half guard, but Minotauro escapes and gets to his feet. Minotauro has Mir against the cage and throws some elbows! And a big knee! A right hand rocks Mir, Mir is down and Minotauro gets on top. Minotauro goes for a choke, but Mir rolls over and gets top position. Mir has a Kimura! Nog tries to roll out, but he taps! Amazing sub!

Winner: Frank Mir via Submission (Armbar, 3:00 of Round 1)

Harrison’s Analysis: Wow. Mir really turned that fight around, by pretty much turning Nog’s arm around, to the point where he actually broke it during that Kimura. Crazy-ness. Pretty sick when Nog’s arm just snapped like that, but wow, what a Sub from Mir. Looks like he could be knocking on the door of title contention again, but he’d better hurry up before the Strikeforce GP guys head on over, whenever that final is. Crazy fight. ★★★★

Jon Jones (Champion, 14-1) vs Lyoto Machida (17-2) (UFC Light Heavyweight Championship)

Round 1: Jones crawling towards Machida like he did against Rampage, now standing.Jones throws a jab and an overhand, both miss. Left hook misses from Jones, as does a spinning back kick. Leg kick by Lyoto. Machida tries an overhand, but misses. Front leg kick from Jones. and another, Machida counters back. Jones backs off and dodges a Machida overhand right. Spinning back kick misses again for Jones. Another leg kick from Jones. Body kick from Machida lands, but the follow up misses. Both men with a leg kick. More leg kicks coming in from Jones. Jones comes in, and Machida with a pair of uppercuts! Jones comes forward and is tagged! Jones shakes it off and recovers! Machida with another good body kick! Spinning back kick misses again, so does a head kick right at the horn. (10-9 Machida. Jones landed more, but Machida was the better power striker, clipping Jones.)

Round 2: Leg kick by Jones, and Machida gives one back. Another spinning back kick misses from Jones. Jones looking for jabs, but not landing. A leg kick by Jones. Machida avoids a body kick. Jones with the awkward movement and another leg kick from Jones. Both men swing wildly in the corner. BIG right by Jones lands! HUGE takedown from Jones, and Machida on his back. Lyoto bleeding from his forehead after a signature big Elbow from Bones. Jones pressing him, and Machida is cut deep. Action paused as the Doctor checks the cut. Back on, good knee to the body by Jones. Machida reverses, and puts Jones to the cage. BIG elbow misses as they break. Machida comes in with a haymaker, but Machida goes down from a shot! Jones quickly locks on a standing guillotine, and Machida is out, and falls to the ground! THIS MAN IS UNREAL!

Winner and still UFC Light Heavyweight Champion: Jon Jones via Technical Submission (Standing Guillotine, 4:26 of Round 2)

Harrison’s Analysis: …I’m stunned. He stood in the pocket and took some heavy shots from Machida, survived, elbowed the crud out of him and then choked him out unconsciousness with a STANDING Gulliotine. This man is unreal. We may be looking at one of the world’s most naturally gifted Martial Artists. Ever. I can’t believe this guy. If he can beat a Rashad Evans, or a Dan Henderson, we may be looking our next Michael Jordan folks. No doubt, Jon Jones, the greatest year any MMA Artist has ever had. Just stunning. ★★★★

Harrison’s Final Analysis on UFC 140: Jones vs Machida

Short, and very, very sweet. Like Megan Fox covered in honey. Jon Jones shocks the MMA world YET again, The Nog brothers provide entertainment in gruesome, and entertaining ways (Seeing Tito wincing in pain never ceases to make me smile), and out favorite Korean Zombie shocks Hominick in just 7 seconds. That’s what I call entertainment, another stunning MMA Card from top to bottom. I sound like a broken record, I’m out of here. Take care, spike your hair, and I’ll catch you tomorrow for my Final Resolution Review from…TNA…Lovely. Sayonara!
